Live Green Expo Steps Up Its Green in 2010!
The 2010 Live Green Expo was a tremendous success last weekend with participation numbers soaring compared with previous year’s events. Over 18,000 attendees learned more ways to go green and over 200 exhibitors provided resources to save people a little green, while protecting “the green.”
Partner-supported and volunteer-driven - Thank you to our sponsors, participants, staff members and most importantly, to almost 700 volunteers who donated over 3,300 hours toward the success of the Live Green Expo. The collaborative effort and heartfelt commitment of everyone involved, allowed the Expo to reach more people in more ways.
Here are a few exciting milestones from the 2010 Live Green Expo:
~ Zero Waste Event: reached a diversion rate of 90 percent with a whopping 1,260 pounds of recyclable materials and 1,265 pounds of organics collected. (Only 300 pounds of trash were collected.)
~ Got Your Bags: distributed 1,300 reusable bags and recycled 133.38 cubic yards of used plastic shopping bags. Over 400 people pledged to USE their reusable bags and stop using plastic.
~ DIY Room: 6,300 people learned easy how-to tips for saving energy and conserving water in their homes. Recipe information for organic alternatives to beauty products and cleaners were distributed to 1,800 families.
~ Rain Barrel Workshops: 206 participants made and returned home with 149 rain barrels.
~ Compost Fair: distributed 150 free compost bins to those completing the Compost Fair stations.
~ Food Waste Composting: distributed free worm bins or biodigesters to 84 attendees.
~ Texas Pure: 738 bags of compost were given away and more coupons continue to be redeemed.
~ Shoes for Haiti – Healing with a Sole: 1,265 pairs of shoes donated, with 604 on-line pledges.
